Get Special "VIT" Access to Bay Area Nature

The Solano Land Trust is currently working with partners in hopes of opening a new section of the Ridge Trail across the Vallejo Swett Ranch Property that will connect the Blue Rock Springs Park and Hiddenbrooke Ridge Trail sections.

With the completion of the Vallejo Swett trail section, the Ridge Trail in Solano County will extend from the Benicia-Martinez Bridge (Carquinesz Strait Scenic Loop Trail) to the Napa County line adjacent to Lynch Canyon Open Space Park. This connection will provide new opportunities for outdoor recreation for the residents of western Solano County.

ROUTE INFORMATION

The total distance for this out-and-back hike will be about 5 miles, starting at the Blue Rock Springs Trailhead.

Terrain Types: cross country hiking, ranch roads, paved roads.

CAUTION: Ticks and poison oak are present on the route.

HIKE DESCRIPTION
From the trailhead, we will proceed a quarter mile uphill over a series of switchbacks before reaching the ridgeline with views of Vallejo, San Pablo Bay, and Mount Tamalpais. Hikers that prefer a short hike could return to the parking lot from here.

We will then cross a pasture fence and walk uphill cross-country following a flagged ridgeline route to reach an old ranch road. We will follow this road downhill to paved St. Johns Mine Road, then turn onto another ranch road at the south end of McIntyre Ranch.

Proceeding through a gate, we will remain on old ranch roads across a broad meadow with a seasonal display of wildflowers. The route will then follow the paved but closed Highgate Road to the connection with the Hiddenbrooke section of the Ridge Trail, affording views of the McIntyre Ranch and the headwaters of the West Fork of Sulphur Springs Valley Creek.

The tour will then retrace its steps to return to Blue Rock Springs.
