Solano Land Trust Earns National Recognition
Land Trust Receives Accreditation Renewal from Land Trust Accreditation Commission
Vacaville, CA – Since 1986, Solano Land Trust has fulfilled its mission to inspire a love of the land and preserve it for people, food, and the natural environment. Now, Solano Land Trust is excited to announce that their Land Trust Accreditation has been renewed, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to permanent land conservation in Solano County.
Solano Land Trust’s second renewal follows their initial accreditation in 2013 and first renewal in 2019. Accreditation renewal proves that a land trust is financially sound, practices ethical conduct and responsible governance, and is able to ensure lasting stewardship. In order to be renewed, Solano Land Trust provided extensive documentation and was subject to a comprehensive third-party evaluation, including feedback from the Land Trust Accreditation Commission on how the land trust has applied LTA Standards and Practices to their work. “Solano Land Trust has made an extraordinary commitment to excellence, trust, and permanence in land conservation,” noted the Land Trust Accreditation Commission.
Solano Land Trust is also honored to learn that their Project Selection Criteria and Public Benefit Determination policies and checklist are being recognized by the Commission as exemplary work, and that they will be included in the Land Trust Alliance digital library and shared with the land trust community as a resource. Congratulations to the Solano Land Trust team on this huge achievement!
Accreditation is a major achievement and affirms a land trust is meeting the highest national conservation standards. In addition to strengthening their integrity and credibility within the community, this distinction also allows the organization to seek and solicit larger funding opportunities with confidence. It also signifies the Land Trust Accreditation Commission’s confidence that a land trust’s lands will be protected forever.
To date, Solano Land Trust has conserved over 27,000 acres of open space and agricultural land in Solano County. They are part of a national group of accredited land trusts that together steward over 20 million acres of land – the size of Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island combined.
Solano Land Trust is currently working on their Goat Island Tidal Marsh Restoration, which will restore nearly 100 acres of intertidal wetland, upland, and public access amenities on Goat Island, near Suisun Marsh and Rush Ranch. They are also expanding their Lynch Canyon property in Fairfield. In 2024, in partnership with Solano County Parks, they opened Patwino Worrtla Kodoi Dihi Open Space Park in Fairfield, a 1,500-acre park with rolling hills and hiking, biking, and equestrian trails, including a 0.6-mile accessible loop trail.
