Solano Land Trust and the Climate
Solano Land Trust formed a regional Climate Committee in 2023. Made up of a diverse set of community leaders from across the county, the committee’s key goals are to develop a shared set of talking points, and a list of constructive action items, to share and disseminate in the community.
We believe open space is key to community climate resilience. Open space protects Solano County’s water resources, prevents flooding, protects air quality, protects valuable biodiversity, promotes food security. A core climate adaptation strategy is to protect working farms, natural areas and open space for future generations.
Our stewardship on fee title lands is through a climate lens. We focus on habitat restoration, protection, and public access that promotes climate resilience. This means planning and conducting prescribed burns, restoring wetlands to retain groundwater and protect surface water, grazing cattle to control grass buildup, and building trails that include shade structures. Our conservation easements on private lands promote and support most of these goals.
