Community Science Volunteer Opportunity – Viola Monitoring: Join Solano Land Trust for this Community Science volunteer opportunity! Viola pedunculata (California golden violet) is the host plant for the endangered Calipee silverspot butterfly. The Calipee silverspot caterpillars rely on Viola populations to grow into adult butterflies. This monitoring will help Solano Land Trust protect their Viola populations to support the butterflies. Participants will be detecting, flagging, and mapping California Golden Violet patches and nectar plant patches. Volunteers will also help with filling out data sheets. The group will meet at the main Lynch Canyon parking lot at 9:30 a.m. and split into two groups, with one group caravanning to the second site at the land trust’s Expansion properties nearby.

Please dress in layers and bring water as weather is variable. Work will involve bending and moderate hiking. No experience is necessary – training will be provided. Contact Olivia Freitas at olivia@solanolandtrust.org with questions.
