Put a child on the land

Solano Land Trust is committed to a vision of every young person in Solano County—ages 0 to 24 has the opportunity to connect with nature in a way that feels welcoming, inclusive, and meaningful.  From early childhood through young adulthood, all youth should have the chance to explore local open spaces, build a personal connection to the land, and feel a genuine sense of belonging in the outdoors. We believe that these experiences can inspire a lifelong love for nature and a lasting commitment to environmental stewardship.

To achieve this vision, Solano Land Trust is implementing programs like Put a Child on the Land that prioritize equity, access, and inclusion. K–12 field trips, with transportation provided, remove key barriers and ensure all students can participate in outdoor learning. High school internships offer hands-on experiences and introduce youth to career pathways in STEM and conservation. Community members are trained as volunteer docents, creating a network of diverse leaders who reflect and support the youth they serve. Through strong partnerships and continuous evaluation, these programs are designed to foster not just access, but a lasting sense of connection, confidence, and purpose in nature for every young person in Solano County.
