Defined volunteer roles help to ensure volunteer safety, clarify expectations, and enable the ‘best fit’ for you and your desired role.

Volunteer Docent (Training Required)

Love being around and talking about nature? Come train to be one of our specialized Docents! Docents regularly lead guided hikes on our public and private properties, bringing the people to experience and appreciate the land that holds us all together.

Docents bring energy and knowledge that is integral to the long-held tradition of guided hikes on Solano Land Trust properties. This is an opportunity for docents to become ambassadors to Solano Land Trust properties through sharing their knowledge, and educating the community.

Docents also serve as Solano Land Trust ambassadors. This position provides an opportunity for the right individual to be a positive presence and source of information and inspiration on Solano Land Trust properties, while communicating observed issues directly to staff.

Goal: Expand opportunities for meaningful outdoor experiences for all people.

Responsibilities and Scope:

  • Safely and responsibly lead guest hikers on hikes on Solano Land Trust Properties
  • Speak about the history, natural history, and ecology of Solano Land Trust Properties
  • Exemplify excellent trail etiquette and stewardship practices, including “Leave No Trace”.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Volunteer orientation, including communications training
  • Must have a fitness level commensurate with the job functions
  • Participation in at least 1-2 guided hikes per month
  • Co-lead one hike with an experienced hike leader or Solano Land Trust staff
  • Attendance at the hike leader annual meeting (volunteer appreciation pre-party)
  • Basic First Aid/CPR or WFA/WFR training a plus

Commitment

Lead at least 2+ Guided Hikes per month.
