Community Science - King Swett Frog Pond Workday
Friday, December 4th - King Swett Ranch Pond Workday
9:30 am - 12:30 pm
King Ranch Frog Pond Workday
Help us restore a riparian woodland, improve habitat for native frogs, and learn about native trees and shrubs. On Friday, December 4th, join SLT staff and the King Ranch Frog Pond volunteer group for a volunteer workday; tasks include mulching, weeding, and tree protection cage maintenance. The Frog Pond is a small stock pond impounded with an earthen dam that provides water for livestock as well as critical habitat for California red-legged frogs and other aquatic species. Volunteers have been planting native trees and shrubs near the pond since 2008.
We will provide gloves and water but bring your own gloves if you prefer. Be sure to dress in layers, bring sunscreen, water bottle, and knee pads if you use them for gardening. There is one portable restroom onsite that is a slight distance away from the worksite. Be prepared for variable temperatures and strong winds. Owing to thistles and ticks, shorts are not recommended.
**Meeting Location:
Meet at the King Ranch access road gate on Lopes Road north of Marshview Road off Highway 680 (King Ranch volunteers and visitors are allowed to drive past the signs and barricades at Marshview Road). Carpooling is encouraged. The access road is mostly paved, with some dirt sections.
