Community Science Volunteer Opportunity 3/22/24

March 22 @ 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

Community Science Volunteer Opportunity

at King Ranch Frog Pond
Meet at the King Ranch access road gate on Lopes Road
Registration Required.

Help us restore a riparian woodland and learn about native trees and shrubs.  On Friday March 22, Solano Land Trust staff and volunteers will be assisting our King Ranch Frog Pond volunteer group with weeding.  The Frog Pond is a small stock pond impounded with an earthen dam that provides water for livestock as well as critical habitat for California red-legged frogs and other aquatic species.  Volunteers have been planting native trees and shrubs near the pond since 2008.  Most of these plants have survived and grown from seedlings to well-established saplings and mature plants.  The native plants are protected from cattle and deer with wire cages that need to be weeded periodically to reduce competition for water and nutrients.

Be prepared for wet conditions, dress in layers, and bring water, snacks, and gloves.  Tools will be provided.  Meet at the King Ranch access road gate on Lopes Road at 9:30 AM.  Solano Land Trust volunteers are allowed to use the closed section of Lopes Road between Marshview Road and our gate, drive carefully when passing the barricades.
