Due to the recent weather, the March V-O-Cal weekend will be at Lynch Canyon Open Space, which like our original site, is also operated by the Solano Land Trust. Lynch Canyon features great views, lots of wildlife, both on the ground and in the air above, and was saved by the Land Trust which purchased the land when it was very close to becoming a dump site. We will be working on the Prairie View Trail, a section of the Bay Area Ridge Trail, which when completed will include 550 miles of trail encircling the Bay Area. On this weekend, V-O-Cal volunteers will be working to improve drainage, widen, re-route short stretches, and otherwise maintain this trail that visitors traverse to access the spring wildflower shows and other features of this beautiful property.
Rain Dates: And due to the new and forecast rain in early March, this project has been tentatively moved from March 10-12 to the weekend of March 24-26th. If you have already signed up, but cannot join us that weekend, please delete your registration.
How to sign up
Volunteers must be age 14 or older. Volunteers under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers under age 18 must have their parent or legal guardian complete two waiver forms in order to participate, as discussed below.
Please sign up for every option below that applies to you. Options are presented by days: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Please volunteer for as many days as you like. Saturday and Sunday are the days we’ll be working on the trail. We also will have volunteers at center camp, including in the camp kitchen, on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It is important that you sign up for each day you plan to volunteer as we buy food and plan breakfasts and lunch based on the number of volunteers that day. Friday dinners are provided only for for project and crew leaders and Friday camp/kitchen volunteers. Please note that Saturday dinner asks for a specific registration.
COVID Precautions: V-O-Cal puts safety first. Please register only if you are vaccinated. Protocols will be used in connection with food preparation and service (kitchen crew will mask in confined areas and during food service), and social distancing in outdoor areas will be requested.
What comes next?
After you register, updates will be communicated to you largely through this Web site. Before the project we will publish a Fact Sheet that should tell you everything you want to know about the project weekend (e.g., the specific schedule, what we recommend you wear and bring with you).
As part of your registration here, you are asked to read and approve a required waiver form in order to participate. Forms will also be abailable on the project weekend for friends or family that you sign up for here. Volunteers under age 18 must make arrangements to have their parent or legal guardian sign the forms.
Thank you for planning to be part of this project!
